It seems that recent past indicates a decrease in the number of blogging sites found on the internet. Many reports infer that the increase in social media use is an indication that people are replacing their blogging efforts and visits with social media use. The questions are raised as to whether in fact the blog platform itself is being pushed aside in favor of social media sites. On the surface it seems these questions may be valid but a closer look reveals that comparisons between blogs and social media sites may not be entirely justifiable or accurate.

Current claims are that social media use is 'siphoning' away blog traffic thereby leading to the eventual demise of blogs as we know them. The question here is how can this be true when it appears that blogs and social sites serve fundamentally different purposes? True enough these sites both are social gathering spots however comparisons end at that point.

Here are 3 fundamental differences that can be found when comparing the purpose and characteristics of the blog platform to that of online social sites.

Focus

Blogs are highly focused where social sites has little or no focus other than to exchange casual chit chat. Now this is not to belittle social media sites but their purpose is for simply socializing with no major focus towards any one theme or topic.

On the other hand blogs are created around a particular topic upon which the focus is maintained. In fact if the blog was to alter or lose its focus it would also lose its readers. People are attracted to a blog platform for what it is all about and if the information they find there is of use they will continue to return.

Purpose

The purpose of a blog is to educate and/or inform its readers. To do so a blog platform must maintain a strict adherence to the subject matter it has identified itself with. Social sites have no such constraints insofar as any subject matter.

The purpose of social sites is to make available a location for people to gather. The content found on most social media sites is not set but rather it is chosen by participants and subject to immediate change all the time.

Educational Value

Sure you can pick up helpful tidbits from social media sites but that occurs incidentally. The main intent of a blog is to share useful information with readers who in turn also contribute their own by leaving comments at the site.

Claims that online blogging sites are falling by the wayside in favor of an increase in social media use may not be entirely accurate. Although a blog platform and a social media site both function as online social gathering spots they appear to serve different purposes. The fundamental differences between these 2 sites as discussed above indicate a mutually exclusive and ongoing need for both.

Of course, you already know that there are a ton of sites where you can sign up for a free blog, but have you thought about the pros and cons on the hosted and self-hosted blog?

Before I discuss further about them, I would like to let you know that I can not go in detail as I want to because of the limited space here. I would refer you to another site if you would like to discover what the advantages and disadvantages of having a free blog and self-hosted blog in detail.

Let me explain what they are. The hosted blog is a free blog that you can have after signing up with WordPress or other sites. However, the self-hosted blog is the one you have to pay to the host provider such as Hostgator, even though the platform is free.

Here are just some pros of hosted blog. It is free in term of filling a few fields and clicking the "done" button. You can go to many places to sign up for a free blog. You can get one at WordPress dot com. Next, it is easy to run. Once you are done with the signup, it is very simple to run. Of course, you need to learn some basic to get going and that is all to it because most platforms are user-friendly. Posting a blog post is a matter of filling text and clicking "Publish" button. Last, it is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ready. You do not have to promote your site. It is already done for you because most platforms are already linked and attracted search engines and traffic.

Here are some cons of having a hosted blog (free blog). You have a limited option. You can have just a few choices. Next you have a basic design. When it is free, you have a design which you can not control the look and feel of your blog and you end up having a blog which is similar to one another.

Again, I am going to point out just a couple pros and cons of having a self-hosted blog out of a bunch of them. First, you have a full control of your web design. You can pick a free theme or template that you like or you can get a paid one that you prefer. Next, you have a professional url, plus the domain name of your choice if it is not taken already.

However, there are disadvantages, too. First, it is complicated to setup. You have to install the WordPress yourself. Luckily, some host providers have a one-click feature to install the WordPress blog. Next, you have to do

SEO yourself. You have to submit your blog to blog directories, ping your blog, drive traffic to your blog, and a lot more.

As I mentioned earlier, I leave out some points related to the pros and cons of having hosted and self-hosted blog due to the space constraint. If you want to find out in more detail, please visit this site: http://www.paulyunonline.com/blog-hosted-versus-self-hosted-blog/.

I have a lot of experience with blogging as well as internet marketing. I started a blog two years ago. I have learned how to use WordPress to install a blog, plugins, as well as other required tools to make money online. I know how to drive traffic to a blog by using either organic or paid traffic, plus SEO experience.

Imagine that you got yourself either a hosted or self-hosted blog and you just started a blog a few days ago. All of sudden you wonder how often you have to post your blog. You have asked your friends and posted the question in a blog forum.

The answers you got are different from one to another. Some people would say as long as you post quality content often; then that would be fine. Some would say you should post your blog two to three times a week. The more posts you can generate per week, the better it is going to be.

In my opinion, you don't have to post an article each and everyday. You don't have to create something of 'genius level' creativity each time you blog. As long as you post something interesting, creative, practical or valuable every once in a while your blog readership will increase. People that like your work will look forward to it regardless of how frequently you post. A little anticipation is a good thing. However, if you want to post your blog more frequently, there are some consequences.

Before you commit yourself to post your blog more everyday, take a closer look at some sequences that I present here.

You may burn out because of a high frequent post over a long period. This is because of the high demand of quality and relevant content take the toll on you as a blogger. It can suffer your quality of your writing.

Next, your readers may lose the participation in communication with you when you post your blog so often. The reason is you do not give your readers enough space to make comments at the end of your blogs. They get burned out, too.

Another consequence is your readers may burn out too. They can not keep up with your too many posts in a short time. They stop participation or they even unsubscribe from your list.

The above consequences are just some of big ones when you post your blog frequently. If you want to find out the rest of consequences, please visit this blog: http://www.paulyunonline.com/blog-post-frequencyhow-often-should-you-post-your-blog/.

To do so there are some things as well as techniques and tools that you must know and know how to use. Keep reading for more

Blog marketing is something that has really peaked an interest in the online world. Many people across the internet are blogging, and have blogs. A blog is also known as a web log. But you will hear the term blog more often than the term web log. It basically is just an online journal that you can use and publish for the world to read. Whether you choose to write about personal things, or business. Maybe you want to use it to promote products or services. The way you use your blog is totally up to you. However, you should be aware of the scams that are out there, and what to avoid while you are trying to market your blog.

Blog marketing is any process that publicises or advertises a website, business, brand or service via the medium of blogs. This includes, but is not limited to marketing via ads placed on blogs, recommendations and reviews by the blogger, promotion via entries on third party blogs and cross-syndication of information across multiple blogs.

Successful blogging is both an art and a science. While free-flowing information exchange is the ideal, one should still be mindful of certain standards when blogging. This is especially if you are running a corporate blog.

There are three aspects to successful blogging, and these are:

Content

Design

Marketing

Good content and a usable, useful design are factors that lead to good traffic and readership. However, building up readership takes time, and this could take a toll on your patience. You will have to jumpstart your blog's popularity with optimal blog marketing, and this is where Bloggy Marketing comes in.

Blog marketing to make money means that you are simply blogging for a profit. If you are going to make an amount of money that will add up to become anything, you need to be persistent, and consistent.

Blog marketing is not something that will give you a limited income. The more you promote and market, the better your chances of making money or more money. Lets say you all ready have a blog set up. You are promoting some services and products through your blog, and you are making a nice little effortless income. Well you want more income; you want to make more money with your blog. What do you do? You promote it more. Maybe you can start with the paid blog directories and submit your blog to those. Investing some of the money that you make is a great idea, especially if you are looking to increase your income.

Blog Advertising

Ads on blogs can be in the form of banners, text links, streaming video, audio clips, flash animation and even plain text. Most blog-based advertising involves payment in some way or the other to the blog owner. Owners of popular blogs will typically capitalise on their readership numbers via a combination of ad formats and Google AdSense ads.

Benefits of Blogging

Because focused, insightful blogs contain a wealth of unique perspectives and regularly updated content,

They can dramatically increase the breadth and depth of your Web reach - provided they are created, optimized, and maintained correctly.

Whether you're new to blogging or an established "A-lister," an Intrapromote blog marketing campaign can help you maximize search traffic and find the target audience for your message.

Some bloggers try to republish articles from free content directories to get visitors to their site and make some money. It is important to have content for those who have just begun working as an affiliate for several networks and do not yet have a great budget, yet need to built small niche websites to visitors to their site so that they can begin making revenue.

Although this can sometimes be the only option for those who are running on a non-existent budget, it is not a way that will easily build your website or affiliate commissions. There are a few potential reasons why this may be detrimental to your business building efforts.

Problem No 1 - Search Engines

Google will not bring up your site if it has the exact same duplicated content other web sites. The more websites share your unique content, the less it will help you rank high in search engines.Good search engine rankings are essential in getting visitors to your website so that they have a chance to click on your promotion links. If you cannot get visitors, then will never make an revenue. To set up the search engine optimization for your website so that you will eventually be high enough in the results to get customers, should be priority one.

No 2 Problem - Getting visitors to click your ads

However getting your site ranking high on search engine result pages and obtaining traffic isa hard job, unfortunately this is only half of the job done. You must also be able to convince those visitors to click on your affiliate links. If your visitors recognize the same content they have seen on other blogs, they will not be motivated to click on your links. This is because most people want to buy things that are recommended by people that they trust or whom they feel like are an expert of the area.

If your content is just duplicated from other sites, you will be exposed as somebody who does not really know what they are talking about and therefore will not look heavily on your product recommendations. This will reduce the number of website visitors who will be willing toclick on your link.

3. Problem - The Author Bylines

The majority of free articles are only reprintable if you agree to place the content owner's byline under the article (you can get into trouble if you try to use it without following the stipulated rules). This poses a problem because most author bylines include affiliate links. When a reader gets done reading a very intriguing article, there is chance that they will click on the author's byline link rather than your affiliate links. This is the no. 1 reason why these authors offer free content, so that they may get their name and links out to the web. Using other people's content may be similar to shooting yourself in the foot and losing targeted audience and profitable website visitors.

Once you come to terms with these problems, you are looking at a serious decline in affiliate revenue simply because you used free website content from directories. It may be the only option for some affiliate marketers, but if you have the inventory to buy your own original content, then you should definitely do it. However,If you don't have the resources, you may be better off writing your own unique content and later on hiring freelancers once you have made a profit to polish your content.

If blogging to make money is your intention should you monetize your site upon launch or wait to develop a following first? For many wanting to get paid to blog patience is not always practiced in the early stages. When creating a blog in hopes of earning an income it is understandable to want to monetize it immediately. However this approach could end up delaying the development of your blog since your promotional efforts may turn away visitors.

Remember that to have a successful blog you will first need lots of good content which will hopefully attract and plenty of loyal readers. Upon launch you will NOT have either!

Here are 3 reasons your patience in delaying any promotional activity upon launch will make it easier for you to get paid to blog later on.

Helps Establish 'Community' Atmosphere

With a brand new blog you want to attract visitors in hopes of capturing their loyalty. This loyalty comes from supplying good content and offering a community atmosphere that is welcoming. Since you have not yet built a reputation for supplying good content you need to 'emphasize' an attractive community atmosphere to lure visitors back.

All promoting to new visitors does is tell them you are interested in their money. Since you got little or no content with which to attract them back they may not even returnever!

Builds Loyalty Faster

With a faster growing community you are now in a position to develop loyalty by focusing on good content and also interacting with readers. More attention can also be focused on reader comments and/or feedback to help improve your site for their satisfaction. Your concentration on these important aspects will not be compromised by focusing on any promotional efforts. You are creating a blog your readers' want and their participation will only help deepen their loyalty towards the site.

Increases Promotional Effectiveness

Readers now belong to a blog they helped you create. They like the layout and the content you supply and why would they not since their input helped bring it all together. They are relaxed, happy, trusting and now also more receptive to your promotional efforts! Here is when you can tactfully begin to promote various products and finally get paid to blog.

When blogging to make money it only makes sense to exercise a little patience and delay any promotional efforts in the early stages. By doing so you are able to build a trusting and cooperative relationship with readers and this is the foundation of any successful blog. Creating a blog that can earn you an income is not something that you can accomplish overnight. The 3 reason we discussed above serve to illustrate that if you intend to get paid to blog it is best to FIRST develop and establish a following. The end result will be a deeper loyalty amongst your readers making your future promotional efforts that much more effective.

Every successful blog typically establishes a content development strategy. Keeping any blog frequently updated with fresh quality content is a key to maintaining reader satisfaction. When creating content however every blog owner must consider the needs and intentions that are unique to their particular blogs. Since every blog differs according to their theme and/or writing style so will the methods used for creating content for the site.

Here are 5 different approaches commonly use to develop the content for most blogs found on the internet.

Useful

Offering useful or helpful content is a great way to win readers loyalty. Developing good quality content like this is normally the result of sharing your own knowledge from past experience or research. In most cases this type content is considered educational in some way, shape or form.

Insight

Insight lends a different perspective to subject matter which can be thought provoking to the reader. Creating content for this particular style involves a mixture of research intermingled with a 'flavor' of current events and your own personal perspective and/or experience.

Inflammatory

Creating content for use to 'inflame' or 'provoke' a reaction out of the reader is much like playing the devils advocate. Focusing on subject matter that is popular with your readers but taking a controversial stance is an excellent way to get readers attention and provoke a reaction. This is a great way to increase the interactivity on your blog.

Humorous

Content such as this finds its roots in the individuals 'talents' and 'gifts' for finding the humor in many situations. Generally current events or commonly observed behavior or trends is what many build their humor around. Poking fun like this is a great way to have a laugh without offending anyone, if done correctly, and that is why it is regarded as a talent.

Reporting

Simply conveying news and information as it occurs this type of content is sought out and shared in a timely manner. Content like this is generally updated quite frequently since 'news' occurs all the time. The focus of the subject matter is always directly in line with the theme the blog has established.

Content development is a very important component of the overall strategy for any successful blog. As theme or individual writing styles tend to vary by blog so do the methods that are used for creating content that is posted to the site. The 5 approaches we reviewed above reflect some of the most common styles of delivery found on blogs today. Whatever style or uniqueness you tend to display it is important to establish a strategy allowing you to continuously create the quality content you want and need to maintain a successful blog. Could it be perhaps that one of the methods of which we mentioned here today is a fit for your particular needs?

Twitter is a social phenomenon that has taken everyone by surprise. Tweeting was first thought of as a purely social activity similar to text messaging, but marketers quickly figured out it could also be a powerful marketing tool.

And like any tool, when used badly, you get bad results. Sometimes very bad. Some of the worst mistakes you can make on Twitter are very easily avoided with just a few basic cautions and by reading good Twitter tips.

The first and most important thing to remember about Twitter is that it is a social platform in a very public medium. So your business or brand will be seen.

With that in mind, and in the context of using tweets on Twitter as a promotional tool, here are some of those deadly mistakes you must avoid.

The most deadly Twitter mistake

Using Twitter to send out 'spammy' and 'in-your-face' promotional tweets will get you shunned by the Twitter community faster than a burp at the Queen's table.

Think of your tweets like conversational comments at a nice cocktail party. People are there to have fun and enjoy what they are doing; they don't want a sales pitch shoved in their face. You Twitter audience feels the same.

Your tweets must leave your Twitter followers feeling benefited by reading your comments, not targeted as a sales prospect.

Twitter is a community: you have to participate

This is an easy Twitter mistake to avoid. The old adage is true; "You have to give to receive." You have to participate in the Twitter world.

Follow other Tweeters, respond to their tweets, participate in tweet threads. Don't expect results if you only send out tweets that benefit you and never interact with other tweeters.

The logic follows like this: If you want Twitter to be an effective tool you have to develop a following to receive your tweets. To develop a following you have to write tweets people want to read. If you want people to read your tweets you have to make them feel benefited by doing so. Think of it like you do your incoming phone calls. If you don't know the number, or recognize it as a sale call, you will probably return the call later or not at all.

But if you see it's a friend's number, odds are you will take the call.

Well, why not? Maybe you think you have the best looking blog going, and if you took a lot of time putting it together, you're probably motivated enough to post to it every day, too. So, where is everybody?

You could be going about it the wrong way. These few tips may help:

Give People What They Want to Read About

You don't need to be the greatest writer in the world to have a great blog. What do people want when searching? They want information or they want to be entertained, right? That's what you need to write, and hopefully, if you have the talent, a little of both. People really only care that what you write is readable and that it's as truthful as possible. They want to feel as if it came from your heart. That's what you need to give them! The best blogs are written by people who really and truly care about their topics. It just shows.

But if you really and truly stink at writing, or maybe English isn't your first language and you have trouble writing. Then, you can still have a great blog. Search the Internet for interesting things, and when you find them post them to your blog in pictures, podcasts, videos, etc. Then, just write a blurb around it to introduce it or whatever, and people will enjoy it. I mean, look at a blog like Boing Boing (http://boingboing.net) and you'll see what I mean.

Remember.. Your Readers Are People

In the past, online marketers took that whole keyword density issue to its limit. They took their main keyword and just plugged it in as many times as they could to get ranking with the search engines. Guess what? It worked. Guess what? It doesn't any more. Why? Because search engines want their results to be people-oriented. They want people who click on their results to get good information, not unreadable drivel written by attention-hungry idiots who don't have a clue about how to care for the people who read what they have written. Always write with your audience in mind.

Find a Purpose

Do you think I give a hoot about what you had for breakfast this morning? No, and neither will anyone else, unless they're in the breakfast cereal business. If you only want people from that industry to read your blog, then that's something to post. Otherwise, it's just boring drivel. Write what you're passionate about. If it's driving, write a blog about cars. If it's snowboarding, write a blog about snowboards, and really let your emotion show. People come to your blog looking for something to do or something to learn. If you give them neither one, they'll probably never read your blog again.

Spill Some Guts

Yep. When you're blogging it's important to tell people a little bit about yourself. They want to know you through your blog, and if you give them some personal information, it will be very well received. Tell them about that time you went fishing on Lake Erie and it was a complete fiasco, or that time you won the lottery and couldn't find the ticket, or whatever. Just be sure to let them know you, even if only a little. It makes you human, someone that people can relate to and hopefully enjoy.

Stop Trying to Sell Things

If you read my blog, it's no doubt that you're an Internet Marketer, too. But if I can give you one good piece of advice here, it's that you shouldn't be posting with the idea of making a sale-ever. If you read my blog often, you know that I rarely post any kind of sales pitch. I have a blog because I want to give people information to help them succeed online as I've been lucky enough to do myself. Sure, I have links to my products on the side of my blog, and usually, I have a bit of anchor text at the end of every post that leads to one of my products, but overall, I'm just trying to provide information about something I'm very passionate about. When you post nothing but sales pitches, you won't have many readers.

I hope these few tips will be of value to you. Your readers are people, not nebulous electrons in cyberspace. they want to learn and they want to be entertained. If you can do both, you'll have readers lined up. Avoid the easy traps that will limit your progress. Come up with a blog that people will enjoy and you'll have traffic enough for a lifetime.
